by Angus Beef inwhat made you realize it was time to go?
i've been having health problems for the last few years and instead of any help, i'm listed as spiritually weak and of course associations is only my kids and husband.
all the good jw's have moved to other congregations and are doing well.

"Well angels don't make mistakes"
I guess he didn't read the part of Genesis where the angels came down to breed with women. If I were a woman, I'd be kinda creeped out to think that angels were listening to my prayers... and watching me in the shower.
"Jehovah sees we aren't ready and he just says "I don't want to kill all those people""
Oh yes he does. Anybody that's read the bible knows that god is ready, willing, and able to slaughter... including all the children and animals. To suggest that armageddon hasn't come because "we aren't ready" is trying to cover up that they are 100% false prophets.
"He has a thing with being late to meetings."
Maybe if the material was worth showing up for, the sheeple wouldn't be late all the time. My solution to arriving late? Don't go at all!

If the GB reinstated the Book study, would it take?
by BU2B ini have been noticing in recent threads that people have been observing that the zeal has been waning among r+f jws.
i have observed that most zealous, die hards have gone to foreign lands, or foreign language congregations, leaving the others in the stagnant english congregations.
when you think of it, if you cared at all about bringing people into the cult, you probably would be preaching where it is fertile, the foreign field.

QB, I'd love to see them try. It may be enough of a nudge to get some to say, "I'm outa here!"

Quite an interesting first meeting with my Therapist.

I kinda agree with rebel8. Although I appreciate that the Dr. sees the danger WT presents, I wouldn't be keen on a therapist that hands me a new message from god.

I'm curious, when you were asked to do a demo for a Service Meeting part, how did the request make you feel?
by Stand for Pure Worship indid you decline out of fear?
decline because you hated doing demos?
accept the request graciously?

LQ, One of the advantages of doing a last minute assignment, I found, was that there was not much time for nervousness to build up and expectations were low.

Let's Talk About Sex
by cofty ina old thread was bumped recently in which posters from 9 years ago raised objections to evolution basesd on personal incredulity regarding sexual reproduction.. i remember an elder in one of my old congregations saying something to the effect that "how could evolution be true, if men evolved before women...blah blah" you get the picture.. i have refreshed my memory of a chapter in nick lane's excellent book "life arising - the ten greatest inventions of evolution" and put together a summary.
it would be great if others would add to it - cantleave, adam, tiktaalik, s&r, bohm et al?.
here is my starter focusing on the problem with non-sexual selection.... if the driving force in evolution is the struggle of selfish genes to pass on copies of themselves to future generations, then sex seems counter-productive.

Oub: "Let me guess, that must describe you to a "T"!"
If I were describing myself, I would have also included 'perfect teeth with no cavities'.

I didn't mind doing demos as long as it wasn't too often and the subject wasn't too awkward.
I hated asking others to do demos. It was like offering them a gift-wrapped dog turd.

Fraz: "Wouldn't they say: 'spend more time preaching and no time w@nking'? - if it was the other way round, people would definitely be happier"
And when there is any wanking, it is to be followed by guilt, followed by depression. The solution is to spend more time preaching so you'll have no time or energy for wanking.
And they claim to be "the happiest people on earth"?

Don't discount the value of viril old men. Longevity is a desirable trait for offspring. If, for instance, a man is in his late 40s, takes no medication, no complaints of back, neck, knee, or hip pain, is physically fit, has a full head of hair, and is just about to complete his degree, might there be some genetics there that a younger woman just might look at and say... "old wine is better."
I'm just sayin'.

They should reinstate it and study "Revelation--It's Bland Climax at Hand!".
Then it's time to study "Making Your Family Life Dreary". Nothing like having a study about family when only a really ancient couple and a single middle-aged sister are the only ones there.
